DESCRIPTION

To master the art of public speaking learners need to eliminate discomfort and boost confidence, and understand the key elements of opening, message delivery, closing, and question and answer. In this session, participants will learn the skills that Toastmasters International teaches to create generations of great public speaking professionals. Join SHPE Boston at this special event to grow as professional, network, and become a better speaker.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Anyone who wants to build confidence and overcome the fears associated with public speaking. STEM professionals will gain the skills to clearly and effectively present materials to teams, organizations, or public groups.

PRESENTER: KURT UETZ, THE VICE PRESIDENT – EDUCATION, UPPER CAPE TOASTMASTERS

Kurt Uetz is a program manager at Teledyne Marine Systems designing and building the company’s next generation remotely operated vehicles.  Prior to working at Teledyne he was the program manager for the Deep Submersible Vehicle Alvin upgrade at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.  Kurt also worked in the telecommunications industry and was an operating engineer in the Navy on destroyers and cruisers followed by managing complex shipbuilding and repair projects in naval shipyards..
Kurt strives to integrate good systems engineering and project management practices and strongly promotes communication skills for engineers.  He feels engineers change the world and communicating the story in your design is essential to its success.  Kurt has a PE and PMP, an MS in Mechanical Engineering as well as Project Management, and is trying to learn Chinese (the key word here is trying).  Kurt and his wife Cindy live on Cape Cod and have several family members in Upstate NY.
